The Western Cape's professional body for architects, on Loop Street, running a regular public exhibition programme on architecture and urbanism.
The Cape Institute for Architecture is the Western Cape's professional body for architects, and its Loop Street premises run a public exhibition programme alongside the professional work. Shows come from both industry and academia and deal with architecture and urbanism — the buildings, but also the arguments about who the city is being built for.
It is one of the more substantial free exhibition spaces in the CBD and the only one with that specific subject. For anyone interested in how Cape Town is being shaped rather than in art for its own sake, this is the address on the route. CIfA opens for First Thursdays, the CBD's late-opening evening on the first Thursday of every month.
