SMAC Gallery

SMAC Gallery was founded in Stellenbosch in 2007, opened in Cape Town in 2011, spent close to a decade in a 1200-square-metre Woodstock space, and returned to the City Centre in 2023. It now works from Church Street, in the middle of the CBD gallery strip, and still runs a Stellenbosch space. The programme is contemporary African art at a scale few South African commercial galleries attempt — museum-sized shows with the research to match. The Church Street address puts it within a few doors of Eclectica, 1895 and AVA. SMAC opens for First Thursdays, the CBD's late-opening evening on the first Thursday of every month.
