Tannin is a recent addition to Bree Street and has built its case on the list: over 430 South African wines, which is a serious number for a room this size and means the by-the-glass selection changes often enough to be worth asking about. Food is seasonal small plates and platters, sized to keep drinking rather than to end it, and the walls carry a rotating display of artwork — which is what puts a wine bar on a gallery route rather than merely near one. Tannin keeps its programme on Instagram at @tannin_on_bree. It opens for First Thursdays, the CBD's late-opening evening on the first Thursday of every month.
